Championships begin with 185 athletes for the Vertical Race (AD)

Ski Mountaneering World Championships start this Monday with the first race that will take place in Tarter with 185 racers from 23 countries. The race will start at 10.15 hours with the cadets from Pla de Riba Escorxada towards Tossal de la Llosada. A quarter of an hour later it will be juniors starting from the same point next to the Riba Escorxada Refuge. At 11 hours the women’s senior race starts from Tarter (400 metres below Pla de Riba Escorxada) and at 11.30h from the same point the men’s race starts. Arrival for all categories will be at Tossal de la Llosada at 2560 metres of altitude.
The race will mainly take place in open to the public runs and as organizers explained the public can enjoy and be a part of this international event.
The first 10 classified racers in the latest competitions will be at the front row of the mass start of every category. Spanish Kilian Jornet, Italian racers Manfred Reichegger and Damiano Lenzi, French racers Florent Perrier and Tony Sbalbi, and the Swiss Florent Troillet start out as favourites for the senior category. As for the women category, Italian racers Francesca Martinelli and Roberta Pedranzini, French Laetitia Roux, Spanish racer Mireia Miró and Andorran Sophie Dusautoir start out as favourites for podium.
Weather forecasts for Monday give -4 to -10 Celsius at the finish point and winds will go between 20 to 40 km/h at Pic de Llosada
